Will Samsung Galaxy S10 support 5G
Samsung confirmed its release date of the next S flagship- Galaxy S10 on the CES 2019, the launch event will take place on Wednesday, February 20 at 11 am. Even though there are still 3 weeks to go, rumors and leaks about it had been refreshed from time to time. It seems that Samsung Galaxy S10 will not come alone, it will arrive in 3 configurations:
–Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite: a cheaper model with a smaller 5.8 inch screen, straight edge, fingerprint unlock on the side edge, no headphone jack, 2 rear cameras and 1 front camera.
–Samsung Galaxy S10: the standard flagship, 6.1 inch screen, curved edge with fancy in-screen finger reader, remained headphone jack, 3 rear cameras and 1 front camera.
–Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus: successor of the Galaxy S9 Plus , 6.4 inch screen, curved edge with in-screen finger reader, 4 rear cameras and 2 front cameras, giant battery.
Samsung used to release a pair of flagships since Galaxy S6 in 2015, why does it break the pattern? I suggest it’s due to the high price of S flagships and the slow increase of market share. Similar to the iPhone XR, Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite is considered as the budget phone with the newest technologies, nevertheless it seems that iPhone XR doesn’t live up to Apple’s expectation.
It was said that Samsung Galaxy S10 would be a foldable phone and it would support 5G , apparently the former prediction is wrong according to current leaks, but Wall Street Journal reported that Samsung would debut its first foldable phone on the S10 event, it might be called Galaxy X. And what about the 5G capability? Will Samsung Galaxy S10 be the first 5G mobile phone?
As Samsung claimed before that it was the first company to get FCC approval for its commercial 5G equipment, it’s possible to be the first to release 5G mobile phone. Citing from Korean news site Etnews, the variant of Samsung Galaxy S10 will support 5G network. It might be one of the 3 leaked models, or another mysterious unnamed model. If it’s included among the Galaxy S10 Lite, S10 and S10 Plus, the high-end S10 Plus is most likely to be the one.
Regardless of the price and practicality, 5G network will not be likely to be commonly applied in 2019, so the 5G compatibility is a future-proof spec, if Samsung Galaxy S10 or S10 Plus is not going to support 5G it will not disappoint consumers since the function cannot be used immediately.
